The Arboretum at McCloud Nature Park

Our 2016 Project

Arboretum RenderingDevelopment of the Arboretum at McCloud Nature Park is underway!  After years of planning and fundraising we ready to start the transformation!

The  Arboretum will provide environmental education and a venue to bring people together to enjoy and appreciate nature. It will be a large expanse of trees, shrubs and flowers, arranged in a large circle, 300-feet in diameter, with each of our four Indiana ecosystems represented and easily accessible. Interpretive signage an walkways will be found throughout the Arboretum.

The Arboretum will be a unique natural attraction in the Midwest and a source of education and enjoyment for close to 20,000 children and adults in its first year, as well as a venue for gatherings and festivities.
Development has begun with the Groundbreaking Ceremony held May 6.  Anticipated completion of the spring of 2017!

What is an Arboretum?

Devon Arboretum
United States National Arboretum

An Arboretum is a section of land where many different tree and shrub species are grown and used for educational purposes. Add a little of our Hendricks County Parks magic and the ordinary becomes extraordinary. The Arboretum will surrounded an expansive greensward and be planted with many tree species and understory representing several woodlands that can be found in central Indiana. This living museum will host a huge variety of plants in a single area, easily accessible, where school groups, scouts and families can discover, learn and be inspired by nature. This will also be a beautiful location for weddings and other events.
